Shaiya Ultimate Mage Guide

This guide is meant to be a guide only, nothing is absolute. Feel free to experiment. My hopes are that it will stop people from making the most fundamental mistakes, and to help people get an idea on how to build a mage character. My experience comes from playing Shaiya China, and of course, closed beta. This guide is pretty long, so use the overview and skip to the section you want to read ^^ Note: There is no difference between mages and pagans, except that one's elf and the other is vail. Overview of Contents:
  • Stats
  • Builds
  • Int-mage
  • Rec-mage
  • Luck-mage
  • Leveling
  • Skills
  • Skill Recommendations
  • Items
  • Mobs
  • PvP Strategies
Stats in Shaiya Strength(str) - phys. atk [useless for mages] Rec. Defense(rec) - phys. defense, ranged defense, every rec pt adds 5 hp <--- -="" 1="" 30="" 50="" 5="" 60="" 7="" 9="" a="" added="" adds="" atk="" automatically="" bar="" blue="" char="" crit="" defense="" dex="" dexterity="" difficult="" dmg="" easy="" evasion="" every="" for="" gains="" hit="" int="" intelligence="" is="" luck="" lvl="" mag.="" mage="" max="" mode="" mp="" normal="" point="" pt="" pts="" range="" rate="" red="" required="" skill="" stamina="" stat="" strong="" the="" to="" ultimate="" unlock="" wis="" wisdom="" yellow="">Builds: Remember, builds are not absolute. It's all about playing the character most suitable to your style. Also, characters don't have to be pure. If you accidentally put a few points into dex, luck, or whatever, the character is not ruined! Just no points into str =P. Sometimes, mixed stats work out to be the best. The two recommended types of mages for NORMAL mode are the int-mage and rec-mage. Types for difficult mode: int, rec, hybrid. The types recommended for ultimate modes are int, luck, hybrid. The point of normal mode is to get a character to lvl 50. Int mage most efficiently serves this purpose, particularly w/ defender. Rec mages lvl fast too, and it's better for soloing. Shaiya only truly begins in difficult mode =) Int-mage Pros: Very high atk, fast lvling cons: Very low hp, low evasion, low hit rate Recommended path of lvling: solo or preferably, party with a defender and grind on yellow/orange mobs, or even red if you're in higher modes. When you're partying w/defender, make sure that he/she has properly lured mobs before you atk, or else mobs will switch target. Stats: Pure int, or add in some wis in a 4:1 ratio. You can stop adding wis when you find that you have enough mp to use. Eventually there is a passive that add mp, as well as a skill that converts sp to mp. Pure ints will find themselves drinking lots of mp pots before lvl 25ish due to not enough mp. So therefore, some wis will save you money at early lvls as well. *I personally recommend adding some wisdom! Later on: do 6:1 (wis), 5:2 (1 wis, 1 rec), or 7:2 (1 wis, 1 rec) Rec-mage Pros: high defense, high hp, money-maker, good for soloing Cons: medium atk Recommended path of lvling: solo on green mobs that use PHYS. atk (attempting to fight mobs that use mag. atk will be terrible), lure lots of them (at least 5+), you'll barely take any dmg, then run, then release your AoE skills. the skill fire thorn will help out a lot, because it aggros mobs, and they will take dmg every time they hit you while fire thorn is active. you'll lvl almost as fast as a pure int. don't party, it will only reduce exp gained. green mobs won't cost you much in terms of pots, and you'll get lots of money off them. use the money to buy a really good weapon to increase your atk. Stats: Mostly rec, some int/wis. 4:1 Difficult mode: 6:1 (int/wis), 5:2 (1 int, 1 wis) - this build not recommended for ultimate mode Luck mage - an interesting build. I've heard about its power at later levels, so I put it here as an option. This build is more for later modes when you want to do a different build for fun and power ^^ Pros: amazing crits! highest atk Cons: slow lvling Recommended path of lvling: go int-mage or rec-mage, then buy an item mall product that resets stats. or if you don't want to spend the money, it's a very slow grind on blues/greens. the amazing crits and misses don't really show till high lvls. for example, when you have 300 luck pts, your crit rate is only about 50%, but with 400 luck pts, crit rate is almost 80%. so before you crit all the time, you're weaker than int, rec mages. you also need really good gear in order to lvl decently. Stats: Mostly luck, some int/wis. You need 500 luck pts, preferably 600 w/ lapis to be a decent luck mage. works out best in ultimate mode, 6:3 or 7:2 Hybrid mages - a personal combination of stats that you prefer - works best for difficult/ultimate mode popular types are int/rec, and int/luck. There's always a few wis pts tossed in there, but very little. Intuitively, a dex-mage makes sense - dodge rate, right? But this is actually a really crappy build, because everything is low. Low atk, low hp, low mp, low mag. hit rate. Finally, since like luck pts, you need a ton of dex pts to actually dodge a certain % --- again, very bad lvling too Leveling: In general, mages should kite, especially at early levels. I see the new mages standing there and trying to tank mobs. Nooo! You should cast, cast again, run away if mob is near or hits you, then cast again. Particularly as a ranged class, distance is important. Eventually, rec-mages don't have to care anymore; they can tank somewhat. Shaiya is also not a potting game. Pots have 30 second delay time, so it's heals, and then you can't heal again until 30 secs later. Be prepared, and drink that pot as soon as you feel some pressure. Don't wait. Another general thing some people don't realize is that you can jump and swim in the game. When trying to get to your favorite grind spot, save time by jumping over things or swimming. There's a lot of complaint going on about skill interruptions and mages being a weak class. Before you complain, you should reflect first ^^ Except doing PvP, PvE should be no problem for you~ Are you picking the mob in the most strategic location? Int-mages, always pick the most isolated and distant one, to allow for maximum number of casts and to avoid AoE's surrounding mobs. Rec-mages, cast your AoE's into most crowded place, but, you should not run into most crowded area. My skills keep getting interrupted/ I don't have enough time to cast my spells? Remember, skills mostly interrupt by either 1)a mob hitting you, or 2)you run before the skill finishes casting. Avoid doing either, and if surrounded by lots of mobs, keep an eye on the hp bar and run in circles. A higher level technique is to dogde- double hitting S (dodge back), Q (dodge left), E (dodge right). Mobs get too close before I kill them? Take note of elemental resistance! Use the skills that deal most damage on a particular mob. Finally, know the cast times of your spells! Cast the one that takes the longest first (when you have max distance), and the instant one last. Skills: I hope to post up a more complete list up later, for now, there's a skill list in the general forum. Skill Recommendations: These recommendations are mainly for normal mode. In difficult/ultimate mode, you have more sp, so this becomes less significant. Skill names are off, since I translated skills from Chinese. Please correct me on the skill names =) When I say meh, you can pass or get 1 level to try it out, and again, it matters less in later modes. Passives: Dagger power up - (useless, unless you plan on using daggers) Mana training - adds mp, max Relax body - improves hp/mp/sp recovery rate (lvl 2, or max if u have the sp) Backpack - adds inventory space (get lvl 1, maybe lvl 2, depends on need) Interpretation - allows you to understand language of other side (useless) Basic: Magic ball - max (good finishing skill) Self protection - max Fireball - lvl 1 Sonic pole- lvl 2 or 3 Ensnare Roots - if you like to pk, max this Magic Drain - useless Attack: Fire thorn - rec-mages, max this skill. Int-mages, stay away! Fire wall - useless, rec-mages - lvl it if u have sp Storm - max Falling Stone - lvl 2 HP drain - meh, 75% success rate btw Revenge (ultimate mode) - good pk skill, only 85% success rate though, if you get it, then max it, no point in getting only lvl 1 or 2 Corruption - meh, low dmg over time Meteor Strike - lvl 2 or max (some ppl love the dmg, while others hate the cast time) Earthquake - lvl 1 or 2 Lightning Strike - max Fire song, Wind song, Earth song (difficult mode) - these 3 skills all do high dmg, but they have 4 sec cast time and 300 sec refresh time before you can cast them again. So they're only good for 1 hitting things, or pking. Most people max 1, and get lvl 1 of another one. Special: Hidden power - max Energy conversion - converts sp to mp, lvl 2 Lifesaver - lvl 1, or max if you pk Hellfire - free choice, a decent AoE Earth Split - free choice, decent AoE Tornado - max Death Announcement - useless, 1800 sec delay way too long, and it doesn't work on a lot of things Disease - meh Natural Curse - removes elem. resis, some ppl love it, some ppl find it utter waste of sp, when maxed, 80% chance of success Curse - lvl 2 Soul Collection (difficult mode) - good final pk hit Secret Technique (difficult mode) - turns everyone in your party except your self invisible, bad skill lol, the mage should not become a target XD Carmani's Fury (ultimate mode) - meh Items: A mage can equip either a staff or daggers. Normal mode -- staff for sure Later modes -- staff w/ wisdom lapis, or dagger w/ int lapis A dagger hits lower dmg, but it's faster and misses less. The better the gear, the more slots it has for you to seal in lapis. mages should focus on wis, rec, and dex lapis. tailor needs to individual builds - accentuate your strength, hide your weakness. Mobs: White - 6 or more levels -, no exp Light Blue - 4 or 5 levels -, low exp Blue - 2 or 3 levels -, some exp Green - your level +/- 1, decent exp Yellow - 2 or 3 levels +, good exp Orange - 4 or 5 levels +, better exp Red - 6 or 7 levels +, great exp Pink - 8 or 9 levels +, amazing exp Grey - 10 or more levels +, suicide! Most mobs except for the undead have elemental resistance. fire >> wind >> earth >> water >> fire PvP Strategies In my opinion, mages are more of a PvE class that is also amazingly effective in group PvP. Stay behind everyone else, unleash crazy AoE's, and be aware of assassins and hunters. The mage, unfortunately, does not do well in individual PvP. Vs. Priest/Oracle - not much strategy, just hit them with your highest hitting spells, and try to root them. They will throw spells back at you. Priests/oracles have tons of wisdom, so you do low dmg on them, takes very long time to bash their hp. How much wis and hp each party has determines how long the fight will last. Sad thing to say, but you will probably lose. In fact, you can even try switching to daggers and stab them instead because some of them have so much wisdom that your spells just doesn't do much. Vs. Ranger/Assassin - ouchie. Ranger/Assassins are probably the best classes for PvP. They interrupt your skills, can make you faint (status effect), kick you, and be invisible and stalk you. You can only run... and they even have a skill that boosts speed. boohoo. Just don't let them get close to you, root them, etc. It all depends on how well you use your PvP skills. You do have some chance against them. Vs. Archers/Hunters - pretty bad as well =( they have this skill that drains your mana. And then you're kinda screwed. However, if they don't drain your mana, then you have a chance! (because some of them save their skill points, and don't bother to lvl that skill =P) Run close to them! Because ranged dmg gets reduced to almost half when you're standing right next to them. Then root, and bash them like crazy. Vs. Fighter/Warrior - the second their name appears, runaway! then root, hellfire, all 3 wind spells (instant cast ones), while you run some more to give yourself possible another chance to repeat aforementioned spells. It all depends on keyboard control ^^

Shaiya Monster ID System

When deciding what monster to hunt, you can tell how much of a challenge they’ll be by clicking on them once to target them. The name of the monster will appear in one of the following colors, depending upon how difficult they are:

  • White - 6 or more levels below you, no experience value

  • Light Blue - 4 or 5 levels below you, extremely low XP value

  • Blue - 2 or 3 levels below you, low XP value

  • Green - your level plus or minus one, decent XP value

  • Yellow - 2 or 3 levels above you, good XP value

  • Orange - 4 or 5 levels above you, great XP value but a tough fight

  • Red - 6 or 7 levels above you, great XP value but be prepared to die

  • Pink - 8 or 9 levels above you, phenomenal XP if you can bring it down

  • Grey - 10 or more levels above you, run away screaming (no XP value)

Everything you need to know about Assassins part 2

Welcome to part two of this guide. Let's just get going!

Beyond the 50 mark
(Note: Grab your lv45 EPIC WEAPON, Fire status is better than the weapon you will ever have without elemental status)

So you reached the lv50 huh? Well what next? If your deciding to level up some, you best hit Lanharr.

Lanharr(48-55) - Use your epic Weapon, you will do alot more damage than a non elemental weapon. Boars and Antelopes are awesome here, Make sure you duo with a Healer. Get another Sin with you if you want. At 52+ You might want to take those Wolves, Spiders, Bisons. Oracle is prefered here, Spiders Uses venom, Wolves CRITS ALOT, i mean ALOT. Your rec build will pay of on these levels if you went rec build. Bisons have debuff on your def. = You can level here up to 54 if you so choose. 54 or so, move up to Earth Bears. Oracle would be recommended, they stun and they are nasty. You can also try the mines, not much nasty debuffs agaisn't those dwarfs and they are good spot. What sucks about lanharr is that you get NO DROPS whatsoever, only gold and misc items.

Aurizen Ruin (50-54) - Never once set foot here to level, BUT i know every mobs here since i farm LV5 lapis here ^^. Never go for those commanders, they drop the lvl5s but they are to be handled with oracles and 55+ atleast to be effecient. Kobolds are ok to solo, but have some stun scrolls/dispel pots on you. They also have a DoT skill so having being stunned, and DoTed = NOT VERY pretty. Don't USE your EPIC weapon for Kobolds, its just plain STUPID. Kobold > Water, Epic > Fire. You don't beat water with fire. Trolls are pretty easy, your dex should cover you here, they do have slow but can be easily solved with slow scrolls and dispel pots. Reach 51-54 here if you so choose, even 55 but that's way too little for you now. Use your epic weapon agaisn't anything except Kobolds. They also drop Dread gears here, awesome for farming them.
(Note: New maps, MOBS here are always in PAIRS, so you must also be in pairs in able to hunt efficiently)

Desert Map (53-57) - This place is awesome to level to up to 57, its also awesome with oracles. You dont want to wander here alone, your just asking to die. Start off with Wind Status scorpions, Ofcourse use your epic weapon. Fire > Wind, common sense to always use your epic agaisn't winds. You can move up to scorpions deeper up by Desert map 2 portal. If you do come across Water mobs, and you must kill it, Switch weapons to a Non-ele or another ele weapon. Dual Dex, Luc lapis drops here.

Forest Map (53-57) - Likewise, always wander with an oracle. Starting off with Dinos, pick the ones that is not Water elemental. Chase off Earth ele Dinos. If under any circumstances you must kill Water mobs, switch off with a non-ele or another elemental. at 54 or 55, Move to Giant Turtles and Lizards. They are NON-ELE mobs, your epic will come in great use here. That's all the spots you want to know is Turtles and Lizards. They are great to level on till 57. They also drop dual craft, wise, mystic lapis. If for any reason you want to move spots or its too hard, try the Earth mob Trolls. Once again your dex will pay off agains't these mobs, they seem to have low dex, they are also good till 57.

HARDCORE: Desert Dungeon 2 (DD2 - 57-60)
Having past beyond this means, you are some hardcore man, or your gears are awesome. HM/UM are recommended and have an Elemental weapon here. Always have an oracle with you, unless you are that hardcore. Water/Wind mobs wander here, so that epic weapon will come in handy. Also having another ele weapon will be of great benefit to you. Plants and scorpions for Fire weapon, Another weapon for water mobs. Temple is a good spot if you have Earth weapon, you can rotate the whole temple and kill all 4 bosses on each corner (i've killed them a billion times, they dont drop crap!~ good for exp.) This map is full of NASTY debuffs, including AOE+DOT combined. Debuffs that's slowing your speed+atkspeed+defense+lowering stats to -50+killing you slowly. That my friend are the most hardcore debuffs you will ever see in your entire shaiya life, hence why its soo hardcore and not for everyone to be dealing with. Soloing At 57 they give out 30k EXP with charm+exp stone, 58 they give out 24k, 59 they give out 20k. THIS is your last spot from 57 to 60. No other map will give you more exp output solo/duo.

The Discussion between LUC vs STR build
(Note: I wanted to show a video demonstration, but i dont have time to edit vids and crap, so i will explain throughly of my conclusion)
Alright, so the most debate of all in Sin class is being a LUC or STR build. First, STR build relies on RAW power and stable hits. While LUC build relies on your Critical hits randomly doubling the dmg or causing less, VERY random. Lets use my stats as an example:
(Note: Through this whole stat swap and explanation, 500dex is a MUST in my build. Its where im comfortable with dodging same level 3/4 hits against me.)

Everything you need to know about Assassins part 1

Intro:
Assassins, one of the scariest class you will ever face. A combination of hard-hit, quickness, and evasion. No other class puts out as much stat points as a sin. No other class can dodge arrows/axes/magic better than a sin. Your worse enemy is yourself.

The Terms:
STR - Strength (attack power)
DEX - Dexterity (evasion/accuracy)
REC - Recreation (Defense/HP)
LUC - Luck (critical-evasion/chance/power)
ATK - Attack power
LVL - level
HP - Hit points (red bar)
SP - Skill points (yellow bar)
DEF - defense power
NM - Normal Mode
HM - Hard Mode (3x more exp - lvl50 NM req)
UM - Ultimate Mode (3x more exp - lvl50 HM req)
AoE - Area of Effect (Dealing Damage in a set radius)
DoT - Damge over Time (Dealing Damage in a certain amount of time)
Lapis - A stone that adds stat points to your gear

Assassin's Path
So you decided to play an Assassin. Tsk Tsk, this does not start well for you. Prepare to be challenged, Sins do NOT have any AoE skills, or Range for that matter. Your battles are face to face, Up-close and personal. No AoE party wants you, Almost all parties never wants you. You walk alone, and the only hopes of ever partying is with another like yourself, or with some oracles. Hunter and Assassin can work great, but not entirely. You will have difficulties leveling in terms of effeciency (killing 1 mob at a time.) Be warned.
(Note: This isn't to scare you or to talk smack about this class, its merely to get you prepared on the harsh and cold reality, I should know, i've played ALL modes as a sin.)

The Modes:
(Note: Assassins gain +1dex per lvl)
Normal mode - A good class to start your adventure and learning process. Easy mode does not really teach you as much as Normal mode does. If you ever plan on playing a sin in Ultimate mode, you might as well start now. 5-stat/3-skill points each lvl.
Hard mode - For those who never played sins in NM - they get to try out the scarier part of a sin. Better build flexibility, better skills available. 7-stat/4-skill points each lvl, more HP/SP, HM skills unlocked.
Ultimate mode - Playing as a sin, this is what i like to call, the Real Easy Mode. You haven't played a sin, until you have played a UM sin. Everything you've ever worked for, every waking time you've ever spent, comes down to this. +9-stat/5-skill points each lvl. More HP/SP, HM+UM skills unlocked.

The Build:
(Note: I won't cover what stat points to put, i merely describe the build type)
STR sin - A STR sin in this guide means your build is focused on having a good atk power. I dont mean pure STR, i mean versatility. Investing your stat points 50-70% in STR will net you a good atk power, and a good evasion. In example for NM build: 3str/2dex, the most common used at this mode. A very balanced build.
DEX sin - A DEX sin in this guide means your build is mainly focused on your evasion, opposite from STR build, you will imbalance your build by having an average atk power, and a great evasion/accuracy. In example for HM build: 4dex/3str, having 5dex per level will certainly give you an advantage in your evasion/accuracy. A good build for PvP having supportive STR gears.
REC sin - A REC sin in this guide means your build is a mixture of having REC for a bit more HP/DEF. A Combination of DEX and REC can be a great survivability in Open fields. In example for UM build: 4str/3rec/2dex, a balance between your attack power, evasion/accuracy, and HP/DEF when you fail to evade.
LUC sin - A LUC sin in this guide means your build focuses on pure luck. Relying on your critical as your attack power. A very weak and hard build to start off with as a low lvl. You will need atleast 450luc to actually make this build a worth while. This can be achieved by having a re-stat on later levels. (Personal note: Althought this build sounds awesome to some, it requires a VERY VERY balanced points in able to see a good result. This means you will have to sacrifice all points to LUC, have supportive DEX, and STR all at the same time. I do not recommend this build.)
Invincible sin - Coming soon... (still testing )

The Skill style:
(Note: Yet again, i will not cover specific skills to choose from, merely a playstyle. Bear in mind that Having DUO skill styles will require alot of POINTS, and even more for triple combos. So choose wisely, as even UM can only provide you soo much. Having Dual Combo in NM is possible, but plan ahead, and know what skills are required.)
For a complete list of Skills > List by meeeps
The Damage Dealer - The damage dealer playstyle consist of the Damage Chain: Fatal hit > Tetanus > Aggravation > Slasher. A very deadly chain that consist of a pause, - defense, and a rain of pain. A Great combination of dealing damage quick. Having Fatal Hit lvl1 at all times can be great as your opening pause for its quick refresh.
The Stunlocker - The stunlock playstyle, one of THE MOST ANNOYING class you will ever face. Fatal hit > Halt Kick > Stun Crash > Fantom Assault. A very good chain to keep your opponent immobalized until it is dead. Having Fatal Hit lvl2 at all times would be recommended, so you can spam another halt kick after a crash/fantom.
The Dotter - The Damage overtime dealer consist of: Fatal Hit > Drag Down > Venom Crash > Gruesome Attack. A combination of poison that eats HP overtime and a deadly finish of % damage on HP. Having lvl1 fatal hit is good for this chain.
The Quick Pain - Combination of Dot + Damage chain. You unleash the DoT chain first, then finish off with Damage. All the styles below including this one will require Fatal Hit lvl3.
The Stun Killer - Combination of Stun + Damage chain. A Quick way to have an advantage in the means of Damage, having them stunned first, then finishing them off with pain.
The Sleeper - Combination of DoT + Stun chain. A surefire of DoT and having them stunlocked while you watch the poison do your work.
Master of all - Having to be versatile and quick with all of your given skills, this will require ALOT of skillpoints and only recommended for UM players with quick hands in timing.

The inevitable Skills
There are things that you want, and there are things that you NEED. Thus making it inevitable to pass up on the skill that you should level. Here is the list of the must:
(Note: Always max these out whenever you get the chance. If you dont have enough points to either pick between the skills, the ones in BOLD text are in priority)
* The ones bolded are priority *
The Passive
- Muscle Training
- Rouge Weapon Powerup
- Relax Body
- Evasion Ascent
- Backpack upgrade
- Rouge weapon Mastery
The Basic
(Note: Fatal hit is required, although not required to be maxed, this is based on your playstyle of chain skills)
- Agility
- Fatal Hit
The Combat
(Note: While these skills are not required to be leveled up, they are chosen to be beneficiary for you in the long run)
- Stealth
- Magic Defy (UM skill)
- Flash Attack (UM Skill)
The Specials
- Incantation
- Potential Nible

The Weapon of Choice
The Reverse Sword - Its a mini-sword/dagger that is wielded behind the hands of an Assassin. ATK-speed is a bit fast. The line between Normal and Fast. Reverse swords have a bit more critical status on them. And their attacking power have a big gap between your minimum and maximum hit, this means your damage is a bit more unstable per hit.
The Dual Claw - Its a dual wielded claw. ATK-speed is a bit fast. No different from Reverse Sword, except claws have less gap on the minimum to maximum hit, making your damage per hit more stable. Dual claws focuses more on STR/power status.
The Dagger - Its a dagger, unlike the reverse sword, the dagger is carried to the front. ATK-speed is fast. This weapon is faster than the 2 weapons above. It may sound better at first, but note that later on along the level, Daggers do not have masteries, thus losing advantage on the ATK-speed. The other 2 above have 2 masteries making their ATK-speed from a bit fast > fast > very fast. Daggers also have a bit less attack power that the other 2.
The lvl25 Epic Dual Claw - Its a dual claw with 20dex/10luc I forgot the stats, anyways... its a great weapon to start off with to 25. Great bonus, great damage. Stick with it till 35+ after that, please get rid of it and get another weapon and lapis it.
The lvl45 Epic Dual Claw (Fire Stat) - A great weapon to have, ITS in no way in h3ll crappy. It must not have stats, but it is great and outdamages any non-elemental weapons. You can keep this weapon all the way till the end to have another elemental arsenal in your inventory.
(Note: Stay away from daggers, they are mainly used by casters for its quick spell casting. Not meant for sins as they do not get masteries from daggers.)

The Gears
The Low budget - This should be for starting out NM sins. Get every quests that rewards you slotted gears. Don't look for anything fancy during lvl1-24, your okay with what you got, When you get to 25 try to farm some lv2s in 20-30 dungeon. START lapising those empty gears, IT really helps even if its lvl1 lapis. Do the same for higher levels. If you plan on playing HM or UM sin, remember to always save your EARLY gears for the next char you make.
Steadily Financed - You either have a NM/HM Farmer that you can farm with, or gold just grows on trees for you. Either way, when your in this status, you must be HM+. If your HM, never settle for anything less, For example, always try to get those Dread gears (4 slots) and Lapis away with lvl3s-4s. Work with what you got and then some. REMEBER to never settle for less than DREAD gears, that 1 slot makes a huge difference. At lv50+ You should start getting those Legends, and try to get some lv5s on them.
PIMP status - Heavy APer, almost unlimited gold stockpile.... Dreads is the only way to go, your still okay with lv3s-lv4 lapis, but once you get to lvl 43+ Start on those Legend gears, and avoid, i mean AVOID lapising lv3s on them. 50+ is even more specific. 50+ LEGENDS should never be lapised with anything less than lv3s, UM should only settle for lv5 lapis and legend gears. If you can't then your not on pimp status.

The Massacre in a nutshell
1-15 - This place would be a good spot to farm those kills for extra stat points. You are in a big disadvantage though, Remember that you have no range, and no AoE. 1-15 is all about having range. With soo much nossers in this area, its hard to get close to an enemy. Always look for a party, never wander alone.
20-30 - The Ultimate party leader, Its usually assassins that gets party lead in 20-30s, because of their ability to stealth almost everytime. Once again though, you are at a disadvantage here, mostly agaisn't wars. Given that warriors/fighters get almost their full skills below lvl30. You do play an important role in this map.
1-60 - *Shivers* This is where Sins truely shine. The latter levels gets you all the best part of being a sin. Evasion plays an important role on this map and so do you. Specially when you get that Slasher skill, it is one of the scariest attacks sins have ever come up with.

Knowing the balance of Elemental
Assassins have a Epic weapon at lvl45. I have heard alot of people saying its crappy because it does not have stats. WRONGGGGGGG! I would gladly trade any non ele weapon with stats for a Ele weapon. Reason why:
Elemental weapon adds 25% damage to non-ele and MORE to whatever its weak agaisn't. Ofcourse its 90% inefective whatever its weak agaisn't.

Order of Elementals
> Strong Agaisnt || * Normal Damage || ^ Weak Agains't
FIRE > WIND *EARTH ^WATER
WIND > EARTH *WATER ^FIRE
EARTH > WATER *FIRE ^WIND
WATER > FIRE *WIND ^ EARTH

This works for PvE and PvP manner.
Although for Armor elemental stat, it only works in PvP manner.
Having a Elemental Armor gives you 25% Defense all around, and Bonus defense on top of 25% on elemetal its weak agains't. This does not work agains't PvE, it just gives you 25% MORE def no matter what mob hits you.
(Note: LV45 EPIC Quest gives you a Fire Elemental Weapon, GET THIS. It will be important later on.)

Come back later for part 2

A Complete Guide to Being a Healer

A lot of people in game ask me Healer related questions, so I decided to try to answer them here. **Everything I say here is my own personal opinion, you do not have to agree with me, these are simply guide lines.** I'm am trying to give good advice that will help you create a character that from lvl 1-60 won't need a restat or a reskill.

*Help I'm starting a Normal Mode healer, where should I put my stat points and what kind of gear should I get?

On a normal mode character, I would go full wis, no exceptions, 5 wis per lvl!
If you decide to create a different kind of healer then be prepared for

Normal mode healers are really no use in serious pvp, they die too fast. If they add a lot of rec, they may live longer but they won't be able to heal for a useful amount of HP, making it harder for them to be useful in pve parties.

Do NOT add int, it is a waist of stat points and can easily be added to gear, if needed!

If you go full wis on normal mode, then your healer will actually be useful later on, for boss killing and other pve situations.

Gear:

At low lvls a healer can get decent starter gear from doing quests and I'd advise putting int lapis in that gear. It will help them solo grind a little, till they can get to a high enough lvl to the point when parties become available; it's a lot easier with the extra int. The best piece of armor you get at low lvl, is a lvl 25 heroic chest piece, most likely the rest of your gear will be noble, worship or just plain npc gear.

From now on, you should try getting heroic or dread equipment. Easiest pieces of armor to get are lvl 43-46 heroics and lvl 29, 45, 46, 50 dreads. You can put 1 int, 1 rec and 1 wis lapis in most pieces of gear. Your torso should have 1 int, 1 mana and either 1 forbid or 1 hp lapis in it. You will probably find that this gear is good enough for you to continue with.

If you find it hard to get these equips, then just use plain NPC gear, till you can afford better.

Later on, if you decide to re-equip your healer with better gear. I would try to get a dread set of gear. You should know by then what kind of lapis you want to put in it, depending on how you use your normal mode healer and your budget. The main lapis you should focus on, are wis and rec, letting you heal more and survive better. So if for instance you're healing someone for the Astaroth quest, you won't get instantly killed by his AoE attack, you will have time to pot and you'll heal your party member enough for him to survive the beating from Astaroth.

I see normal mode as a stepping stone to hard mode and if you plan on making a hard mode healer, or an ultimate mode healer, then I strongly advise you not to make a normal mode healer; as it will become useless, once you move on to the next playing mode.

*I finally started Hard Mode and I decided to make a healer, can you help me?

Welcome to hard mode, you can now enjoy pvp and start making different unique character builds!

Now you should decide what kind of healer you would like to make.
I do not personally support Battle/offensive Healers, they can be an interesting class to play but I find them to be weak, so I'm going to skip that.

PvE healer:
I wouldn't personally bother making a hard mode healer for pure pve but here a a few builds that should work good in parties and solo:

5 wis + 2 rec, is a good build for whatever kind of healer you're planning on making. In pve, you'll like this build because you won't be dying to mobs and you'll still heal plenty to keep your party alive. This is a good pvp build and a good pve build.

4 wis + 1 rec + 2 int, this is a nice build for a pve healer who sometimes likes to solo mobs. The wis is enough for you to keep most parties alive and the int will make killing mobs much faster. It's a hybrid and I don't really like this type of build but it's nice for the solo pve healer. You have no real strong points but you can do a little of everything.

6 wis + 1 rec, this is probably the best support pve healer. You have a little extra defense and health, so mobs don't kill you and you're going to heal more than enough to keep any party happy with your heals. Not gonna be fun soloing on this kind of healer though.

PvP Healer:
Now for my favorite type of healer, a pvp healer. I find this build to be most effective. If you've experimented with different pvp builds for hard mode healers, please share your experience.

4 wis + 3 rec, you may argue as much as you want but I find this to be the best healer for pvp. You are basically designed to keep your party alive, while staying alive yourself. This is a party healer, not very effective solo.

In pvp, it's not so much about how much you heal for but about keeping your party alive long enough for them to kill the enemy, while staying alive yourself.

A dead healer is a useless healer!

In pvp, a smart party will target healers first and if you can't survive long enough for your party to kill anyone trying to kill you, then you're useless.

You need to be carful of people who when all nostrumed up, can kill you before you see them coming. It's possible to get killed with 1 skill hit, by a lvl 57+ um warrior. Health assist can save you but I find it best to only resort to that at the last possible moment.

If your party engages a powerful enemy and you die instantly, then the rest of your party is likely to die as well and you have not contributed anything to the fight.

In pvp you should NOT be attacking your enemy!

Your party needs you to keep them alive while they do the killing. If you are being attacked and cant' heal, run to your party for help. There are still spells that you can cast, to help yourself and to help your party, even if you are being attacked and can not cast regular heals. If your enemy realizes that you're not going to die as easy as they thought, they they'll probably try to kill other members of your party.

So what you should do instead of attacking your enemy, is heal, dispel your party, stay alive and occasionally debuff your enemy, if needed.

I'm not referring to situations where your party is much stronger than your enemies. You can run around dancing, for all I care, if your party doesn't need you.

I don't think I need to remind you to ALWAYS keep your party buffed, your buffs are one of the most useful things about healers!

On hard mode, you get a dread armor set for lvl 29-32, use it till you can afford to make better dreads or legends. Good lapis to put in your gear would be rec, wis, hp, def and mp lapis, even some int is ok, if you can spare the slots.

    *Ultimate Healers:

If you've gotten to ultimate mode, I don't think you need much help from me, you can use the rest of my guide as a guideline for your ultimate mode healer. Simply add 2 more stat points into consideration; I would personally add them to rec.

The new ultimate skills that I know about are a self instant heal and a godly buff. You get the instant heal at a low lvl and the buff at lvl 60. When I know more about ultimate healers, I will tell you more.
Maybe an ultimate healer would like to share some knowledge?

To be continued..

Shaiya: Assassin Leveling Guide

So you decided to be an assassin. Sucks to be you. At least, that's what a
pagan'll tell you. "z0mgwtfbbq i got lvl50 in 3 dayzzz lOOOOOL." then you whip out your 44 assassin, kill them in four hits, and smile. how do you get the levels though? patience. lots of patience.

Who should play an assassin?
If you play long hours, you might consider an assassin. AOE chars tend to find maybe one or two good parties a day, whereas a 'sin can solo all day long. You also need patience. lots of patience. If you get on just for a few hours a day, pagan/orc/guard may be a better choice for you. hop on, check for parties, come back later if you can't find one.

What stats to get?
For NM, you want 3/2 str/dex. 3/2 dex/str also works, so i've heard, but i like my power, and i'm sure you will too.
For HM you have more variety.
The most basic, high-damage build is 5/2 str/dex. It works, it's simple, it'll get your target dead. Some people like to add in luck, but the rule with luck is, if you are going to add it, add a lot. Anything under 300 is absolute crap. Anything under 400 is pretty weak. But you have a luck buff, so you can take advantage of that.
The absolute best build you can do is a custom build. That is, not xx per level, but set goals. Say, 100 str, 250 dex, 350 luck with buffs. Lapised correctly, this is a very good build.
If you're UM, here's a build i've been considering (if you're a ranger, don't bother - it won't work for you): 5 str / 2 dex / 2 luck. All the power of the 5/2 HM build plus 100 luck by 50. At level 53, you'll have incantation lvl3, pushing you to about 200 luck. Add in 3 level 5 lapis and you have 260. Get a weapon with good base luck ( i have one with 35 so let's go with that), and you have almost 300. So now, at 53, you have maybe 600-650 damage (no damage lapis added), and a 60% chance to crit. Pretty good, huh? All you furies, try it if you want. But rangers be warned, it will never work for you. i promise.

What skills to get?
Muscle Training 3
Rogue weapon power up 3
Relax body - optional, not useful in combat
Evasion ascent 3
Rogue Weapon Mastery 2
Fatal Hit - your preference; i recommend keeping it at 1 until 50. if you want longer charge time for longer combos, up it.
Agility 3
Sprinter - optional, i like it at 3. NM has the points for 1
Blunt - HM skill only, get it at 1 for pulling monsters.
Tetanus 3
Halt Kick 1
Drag down - optional, this combo is for taking down defenders - if you're NM don't bother
Stun Crash 1
Stealth - 3 if you can get it, and you're untouchable until you choose to be touched
Trap - 1 if you want to decloak enemy rangers, optional if you want more
Aggravation 3
Venom Crash - see drag down.
Flash Attack - UM only. get it. love it. lvl3 it.
Incantation 3
Potential Nimble 3
Transformation - optional, good for running past monsters. do not get 3, a horse is ridiculously large and easy to see
Slasher 3
Disguise - optional, good for confusing dumb Alliance and getting past monster (that's right, they do NOT attack a disguised sin!)
Perfect Position - optional, good for duels, not so good for long-term hunting
Fantom Assault 1, 2, or 3. 3 is wonderful
Gruesome attack - see Drag Down. level it to 3 for best results.
Terrible Attack - HM only. TA + GA = very sore defender.
Syeeric Touch - if you get level 60 UM, you deserve this. Use it and watch a defender drop a log.

What skills to use while grinding?
Fatal Hit lv1, Tetanus lv3. That's all. When you get into dungeons, use the entire combo. If you're HM, pull with blunt. You "can" use Halt Kick/Stun Crash (especially on magic monsters, if you must fight them), but they are set damage attacks, and rather low damage at that.

What you need for hunts
Potions. Lots and lots of potions. Set up your skill bar so you can display many potions at a time. i have six potion slots when i PVE. For map areas, use health potions. for dungeons, take health potions, supin potions, and a few stamina potions. i like to take half a page of supins, half a page of HP, and 3-4 stacks of SP.

What to avoid
Sonic volt, rooted foot, double pain, poison, vital farer, darkness, unconscious. Anything that slows you, stuns you, or poisons you over time. Avoid monsters who you can't tetanus, avoid monsters who do high magic damage (VIPERS). For a more complete list, refer to page 2, post 4.

Parties
Who to party with? Duoing with oracles is great if you don't want to die. i've never personally duo'd with a hunter, but it can be good experience as well, so i hear. The ideal party is a trio - the exp only goes down a tiny bit, with the party power increasing by one-half. Anything bigger than that is annoyingly slow.

And now, on to the levels. Just a warning, it will mostly be hard mode levels - if you are Normal Mode, add on two levels and you should be able to handle the same thing. i will not be listing ANY monsters that cast the debuffs listed above. if you like them, go for it. i don't.

Level 1-18
For 1-15, just do quests and you should get there. HM will have to grind a bit, i suggest helltooths til lvl11 (both difficulties), and wolves/boars north of Gliter til 13~, frogs til 15.

Once you hit 15, you can pvp for a while. Enjoy it, you've got a long road ahead of you.

Level 15-18
From 15-18, do quests, play with different monsters, find out what you like. If you can't tetanus it, remember because chances are you NEVER will. The annoying monsters, over time, become even more annoying variations of themselves.

Level 18-30
Don't solo in AR. Don't solo in AR. Don't solo in AR. Do you get the message? If you're looking for a weapon, kill skeleton soldiers, or goblin gateguards. If you're NM, parties are cool. If you're HM, go to map 2 and kill frogs (after doing quests).
Level 20-22 should be fairly fast due to quests. Kill whatever you want...frogs, wolves, pixies, gallus are all good targets.
Level 22-25 i can't remember the levels exactly...but the ONLY thing you should be killing is boars/gallus south of Starfumos until you can handle bison/antelopes west of Aumeros. If you can start here at 21, start here at 21. It's slow, slow, slow exp, but get used to it. It gets worse.
25-30 Do antelopes til they're green. Move on to sealakels. They hit HARD but you need Spirit Cores for your quest. Get 60 of them, then find something that hurts you less. At level 27 or 28 (can't remember which), Gigas bison/boars will be available. They are so easy it's pathetic. Level 30 should allow you Gigas Beholders/Golems. If it's overcrowded, you can do Gigas sealakels/frogs, but they hurt a lot. Also, don't forget your dread quests. Silverback Goblin Hunters, Poison Mist Zombies, and Silverback Goblin Shamans drop the items to start the quest. Use this gear til lvl43.
Rapioru Maze is also a possibility for 25-30, although i never enjoyed it myself. If you go, bring potions and go at high bless or it's slow.

Level 30 - PVP.
Do it. PVP til you're sick of it. Til you can't stand to see another Alliance ever. And when you hit that point, PVP some more. If you can get 1k kills do so. If you can get more, do so. This is the final frontier. There can be no looking back once you hit 31.

Level 31-36
Don't enter KH. Don't enter KH. Don't enter KH. It's so horrible for assassins, i could just cry.
Pop a stone if your HM. You will never get below .08% if you pop a stone, and rarely even that low.
Level 31-32, try your luck with keuraijen big bears and spiders. They hurt. Get used to it. You can also try goblins way over to the west, but get ready for some sonic volting.
Level 33-35, your best bet is white lions. They are gloriously easy, despite rooted foot (which you will come to LOATHE by the time you hit 36), and they drop ridiculous amounts of gold. Buy exp stones with that gold, you'll need them. Level 35 will be your slowest level to date.
Level 36 is when you can finally start in on map 2. You can start earlier if you so choose, but the fastest exp per minute is white lions. Level 36 is a rough one too, but kill goblin stonethrowers/looters til you're blue in the face. They're north of the first goblin camp you'll see. You can also do D1 at 36, but have fun with farmers.

Level 37-43
Go to FL. Go to FL. GO TO FREAKIN' FL! This is what i'm talkin' about. Remember those last two painful levels? Now it gets easy for a while. Take potions, don't die, and get your glorious .2%. Even more if you're NM (but don't come here til 39). Hit the early rooms til 39, at which point they should turn green. Then jump the red elves entirely and move on to skeletons. At level 40, check for quests - you get a lovely HM quest that gives you 15%. At 41, check map 2 for quest, you get an easy 10%. Kill skeletons til level 42 (the last level's a rough one). At 42, go down to FL2 - if you have your dread set lapised up nicely, these guys should be... unbearably slow and painful. Here is when i started sucking supins and HP both. If you know of a better place to get to 43, let me know. i tried AN, too easy to die there.

Level 43-44
This is when you start to question your worth. Those kobolts and ghosts are just as hard as ever at 43, and they give less exp. The ghosts give a solid .1 but this level will still be noticeably slower. At level 44... well... try mutants/vampires, but be prepared to suck potions. This is where i am at the moment, so i haven't explored all options yet. If you know of a better place, let me in on the secret.

Level 45-48
USE YOUR EPIC! It IS better than your 43. If you cannot afford mountains of lapis, use it until 50. It will get the job done. Just... avoid water monsters. god priests, vampires, sealakels...are a no.
Level 45 - if you can get in a Lan party, by all means, do it. If you have a nice guild, ask them to help you. You *can* handle the ghosts on FL3, but they come with vampires which are WAY too strong for you. Soloing, the fastest exp is vamps/mutants in FL2, though if you're getting poor (and you will be), you might consider Futesys camp (yellow monsters). they drop a lot, require few potions, and die so easily (as all elves do).
Level 46 - Ruber Chaos is still orange and better. This IS the fastest exp you'll get (spiders/undeads anyway, NOT vampires), BUT alone you will die. The absolute fastest "solo" exp is to get healed by an out of party oracle here. If you go alone, you'll die quite often. Second best would be FL3, in a room with ghosts. Vamps are annoyingly long to kill, but ghosts are ridiculously easy to kill. Another option is D2, which is, in fact, faster than RC but dangerous due to Alliance. If you're not going solo, your best bet is a fast lanhaar aoe party or a deep, deep RC aoe party.
47, D2/RC will be yellow to you. I D2, as in RC there are monsters who will debuff you extensively. If you are using the lvl45 epic (and you should be unless you have a well-lapised level 47 drop limited weapon), you will be unable to fight the succubi. Try to find a place where you can easily pull the orange skeletons without getting the succubi as well. If there are spiders nearby, even better. Don't fight goblins if you can help it, since they stun you often. If you have access to ele lapis, stick an earth in a 47 drop limited and own the succubi too. unfortunately, the writer of this guide is not so rich.
At 48, both NM and HM should continue in D2/RC (if you're UM i don't care, go own lanhaar and level fast!). If you can get into a Lanhaarr party, do it. Even a random melee grind party will be fast there. Duo with a warrior and stun while he damages, or add in an oracle and damage combo. Regardless of where you level, it will be long and hard (well, actually, Lan is quite fast). If you're NM you might consider committing suicide because you'll do about 5 damage to Lan monsters. i might recommend suicide, actually.
According to Grizz's post below, Hellfire monsters are rather good at 45, though i've tried the spot myself and was less than impressed. Your call though. in my own opinion, 45-48 should only use map 3 for quests, and even those seem to be a waste of time compared to exp you could get elsewhere in the same time.
Another possibility are leopards near the Heres relic in D-water. they are apparently beefed up and will hit hard, but they'll give amazingly good exp for 46-48. just watch out for elves.

The Last Level.
You did it. The hard part is over. You still have 13mil to get, but Lanhaar is soloable with lots of potions. With a stone, that's an effing lot of experience. Without a stone, that's an effing lot of experience. If you like to solo at low cost, deeper D2/RC are good (watch out for Alliance in D2, especially on Teos - they like to farm the floor 2 boss!). Do not go into FL, it's beyond worthless to you now.

The Millionaire's Den
Leveling going too slow? Pop a KO, pay an orc to heal out of party, and level in Lanhaarr. This works best starting at level 48 and 49, but can be done (if you are very careful) at 47.

That's it, you hit 50. Did you ever try D1 and get slaughtered by Alliance farmers? Return the favor. What can you do with your big, strong 50 assassin? Duo with an oracle to farm. It goes pretty fast, honestly, considering it's a two-way split. Kill anyone of your level/difficulty. Easily. Kill B6. Ok maybe not, but it's worth a try.

D-water PVP guide
You can handle pvp fairly well at level 40 if you pick your battles carefully, but i would recommend 45+ for the most fun. If you're alone, never stay in one place for too long. Alliance are wusses. You beat them too much and they'll call their friends. Level 3 stealth is a must. Wait until time's almost up on Stealth, hit someone, stealth again before they can touch you. Fade in, fade out. Aim for mages, priests, and party leaders. Avoid defenders unless you're HM or better.
If you're with a group, be sure to have Sprint level 2 or 3. Again, never stay in one place too long. Know what you can handle, and have your finger on the Stealth button in case you get in over your head.

Assassin Vs...
Fighter - If you're with a group, stun crash and let others finish him off. If you're alone, tet combo to see how tough he is, stun him or stealth if he hurts too much, finish him with tet combo. You *can* beat a fighter of your level and difficulty in almost any one-on-one situation.
Defender - If he's any good at all, this will be a long fight. Kill any party members first, and if he's the party leader, be ready for respawn. If you want, use darkness scrolls, though i personally don't have hotkey room. Terrible Attack and Gruesome Attack work beautifully, and even if GA isn't charged, poison lvl3 can still take off a lot. Stun a lot too, especially if you party with another assassin. If he's stunned, he can't dark you. He also has invincibility, as well as other minor buffs. Basically it's going to be a long, annoying fight and you're going to want to kick puppies by the time you're done.
Ranger - Big Coup. If you're with a group, stunlock him. If you're alone, stunlock and tetanus combo. If he disappears, lay a trap and watch him die.
Priest - ...hit him and watch him go dead. He'll be in a party. Find out who's the priest, and kill him first.
Mage - See above. After you kill the priest, you must stealth. They'll use firebrush or whatever to try to unstealth you. Stay back and wait for it to end. Pop out and kill them as fast as possible or you will die. If you can wait for stealth to recharge, do it. If the priest was the party leader, you can do this.
Archer - These guys look way intimidating, and from a distance they are. Stealth in, stunlock him, tet combo, etc. If you're with a party, keep him stunlocked. You can heavily damage a higher level archer, but they'll almost always run away before you kill them. Archers of your level are cake and pie. NM can beat HM archers, HM can beat UM archers.

Leveling past 50
Level as you farm. If you level with the intent to level, you WILL go insane. If you level with the intent to get money, it will go pleasantly fast...ish. Level 50-53, go D2; level 52-55 duo or solo at Aurizen Ruin, and any time past 53, the jungle/desert areas should be ok. Basically, there are a lot of options. Early Lanhaarr monsters are not worth killing because of bad drops, though later monster drops are very worth it. There is possibly a guide coming out soon that will be suited for 50+ leveling. When it becomes available, i'll link it.

Watch for more later...if anyone knows of better places to level, tell me. Also include any debuffs to watch out for in your leveling areas.

Quest Guide: Dark Side lvl 1-44

i missed a quest guide for the dark side, when I was playing my first character...

so I started to do one with my second char (HM). (Perhaps some Quests are only for HM)

You can see/download it as pdf-file: http://www.mmoverload.com/quests.pdf

or if u want to have sorting options or work with the file at your own you can download a xls-file (better u choose 'save target as' per rightklick on the link): http://wwwmmoverload.com/quests.xls

useful link for monster locations to complete the quests: http://shaiyamaps.awardspace.com/map_locator.php I hope the owner will forgive me the direct posting. (there was a post somewhere in the forum...)

Guide to set a custom resolution in Shaiya

It's really easy.

1-Find your Shaiya folder.

2-In that folder you need to open the file named CONFIG.INI with a word processor like notepad or wordpad. Make a backup copy before editing in case you mess something up, if so, just delete the messed up file and replace with your backup.

3-You then look at the top and you'll easilly see the resolution configuration(SIZE_X=.... and SIZE_Y=.... where x is width and y is height).

4-Change the numbers to your needs.

5-Save your changes and close the file.

6-Start the game, voilĂ !

(on older computers this could drop the framerate and maybe make it unplayable if the max resolution for your monitor is too high for your videocard)

IMPORTANT: Do not go over your monitors max resolution, and do not input settings you do not know about, the game already gives some good resolution choices if you're not familiar with editing anything.

This is how it looks for me as an example:

---»The UI problem is minor since you can move most pannels around the interface and when you log back in it's still like you left it. The only thing that doesnt adjust is the bottom XP and Goddess blessing bar and thats not really a problem, it actually frees some space. You could also edit the placement of the pannels in the config.ini file but that would be pointless since you can do it while the game is loaded. (edit: To play with the pannels in the costum resolution you need to add a line at the bottom of the CONFIG.INI file, it should look like this [INTERFACE_....X....] where the ....(4dots) are your resolution in x and y respectively, example for my 1680x1050 resolution would be [INTERFACE_1680X1050] )

---»For font size, there is no setting for it in the CONFIG.ini file, so we can't do anything about it, sorry. You can make the chat window bigger by editing the
CHAT_SIZE0=
CHAT_SIZE1=
lines in the different resolutions but always make sure to keep a backup of the original file in case you mess it up. I advise you guys to stay under 16 for the chat size and only edit it if you play in resolutions over 1024x768.

---»For better readability of the chat, click on the little bubble on the bottom left of it and put a mark in the OOC square, it will make the chat easier to see.

These are examples of the different chat box sizes, first is normal

second is
CHAT_SIZE0=14
CHAT_SIZE1=12

and third is what I use,
CHAT_SIZE0=10
CHAT_SIZE1=10

You can also see the checkmark in the OoC box at the bottom in case you didnt know what I meant.

I hope this helps some of you.

Shaiya guide: Quests for Noble 1-15 PvP Armor/Weapons (Dark Side)

This guide will tell you how to find the best noble armor for 1-15 PvP for every class. It includes the lvl 9 Boots, lvl 10 Pants, lvl 11 Chest, lvl 15 Gloves and Weapons varying in level from 11-14.

As far as I know there is no other guide dedicated to this and this one is accurate. If you notice any errors please respond and I will update the guide.

Ok, here is the map, instructions for each piece can be found below.

1) LEGS: This quest becomes available sometime around lvl 10ish. To start this quest talk to Limpers Pellum in Aridon, he is a guard next to a tower on a hill.(he is located to the left of the large square walled structure) He will tell you to to talk to Mosen Kiesto, who is nextdoor in the large walled in area. Mosen will then give you a quest called Mosen's Favor, it tells you to go to the Blood Labs and meet Mosen Ordo. Mosen Ordo will give you a quest to go meet Dratt (located at #1 on my map). Dratt will give you the quest StonePeg Goblin Family(part 1). It requires you kills 10 StonePeg Goblin Fighters located to the west of Dratt. Then kill 3 Clan Leaders and 5 Goblin Warriors located on the other side of path from Fighters. Next is to kill Jardo the named Goblin, you can find him if you stay on the side with Fighters and run to the back of the camp, hes located at the very back. Return to Dratt with the head of Jardo and receive your choice of... *drum roll* Mighty Noble Legs for Oracle/Pagan, Assassin/Hunter, Warrior/Guardian

2) CHEST: This quest becomes available at lvl8 in Frontier Village from the NPC named Sasru. The quest is called Thorough Revenge and has 3 parts. The first part requires you to attain a "Keepsake from Roman". It tells you to kill WedgeRock Kobolt Guards but those do not exist, they really mean to kill WedgeRock Kobolt Watchers, they can be found in front of Artlum Mine. Part 2 and 3 are easy, just return to the same mine, for part 2, kill 7 WedgeRock Kobolt Fighters, and for part 3, kill the named kobolt Grill in the back of the mine. Return and get to choose your magnificent armor from Warrior/Guardian, Assassin/Hunter, or Pagan/Oracle. You get your level 11 Noble Chest Peice.

3)WEAPON (Warrior[lvl 12 Dual Axes], Guard[lvl 11 1Handed Axe], Hunter[lvl 13 Bow]): This quest starts from Slo, He is located in Frotainer Village. He tells you to go meet Sant (at #3 on my map). Sant gives you a quest called Punishing Thief Puma, which requires you to kill Short Black Hair Puma located at the blue dot on my map. Return to Sant for choice of the deadly Warrior[duals], Guardian, or Hunter[bow]

4)WEAPON (Pagan[lvl 11 Dagger], Oracle[Noble Staff], Assassin[lvl 13 Reverse Sword]): This quest becomes available at lvl 11. Its located at the #4 on my map from the NPC named Ahera(professional trader). She gives you the quest Punishing Thief Wolf. It requires you to kill 10 Steel Teeth Grey Wolf. They are located slightly west of Ahera. Return to Ahera for choice of the sleek and shmexie Pagan/Oracle/Assassin weapon.

5)BOOTS: This quest is available in Gliter at lvl 8 from the Weapon Merchant named Vank Jerad(near blacksmith). He wants you to kill 10 Black Claw Succubus's. They are located on the first sharp curve on the path heading east from Gliter. The red dot on my map marks the spot. After killing 10 return to Vank and get to choose your mighty lvl9 Noble Boots!! Warrior/Guardian, Assassin/Hunter, Pagan/Oracle are your choices.

6)GLOVES: This quest becomes available at lvl 14, you get it from the NPC named Zaite in Frovaton Vill. The quest is called BlackSkull Family and requires you to get 10 Blackskull marks. You get these marks off of BlackSkull Kobolt Soldiers and Blackskull Succubus. They are both located at the green dot on my map. Return to Zaite to get your final peice of gear, choose from Warrior/Guardian, Hunter/Assassin, Pagan/Oracle.

I for one am tired of trying to remember what quests you need to do to get your noble 1-15 set.

Enjoy!!

The Newbie's Guide to Shaiya

Table of Contents

Monsters
Colors and Code
Slang
Adventure, Maps, and Exploration (Also covering the use of water)
Parties and Party Member Roles
Last Tips

Introduction
To start, there are many other guides for Newbies that are available. There's only one problem that comes to me when I read all of them. They cover many things, good things, things I will not bother covering, but they don't cover basic, easy, things that every newb wants to know. They cover things like character builds, the best stuff, where to train for how long blah blah yada yada yada. They don't cover what the different colors of the names on monsters mean, where to go to have some fun, how the big the game is, and how to traverse the maps, the slang on online games, and various other topics. I will try to cover these things in a clear, short, grammatically correct Guide. So then, let's get off to the adventure! I will add here that I will be adding some training areas to help newbs get into the game a bit more as well as cover the quests to get out of the first area.

Equipment
Okay, one of the biggest things in Shaiya, the weapons, armor, necklaces, bracelets, rings, boots, helmets, gauntlets, and other things you will wield and wear. To start, each class or set of classes (ranger/archer and fighter/defender) have special equipment. A ranger cannot wield a bow, and a archer cannot wield a dagger. A fighter cannot wield a battle hammer as a defender cannot wield fighter's weapons. The armor goes the same way, except, for example, rangers AND archers can both wear cloth armor and fighters AND defenders can wear copper armor. Pretty simple system right? Yep, it sure is. There's also levels associated with each piece. In other games you can wear armor with a level higher than you, but in Shaiya, you can not. In Shaiya you can only wear armor equal to or below your current level. Equipment can get expensive , but they do seem to do quite a number on your stats.

Monsters
Got to love the evil beats who try to kill you. Each beast you kill give you a number of EXP that will help you level up, they also provide you with loot when killed. Now, when killing a monster you can dodge by double tapping your movement button, this doesn't help much at all though. You'll also find as you get to harder monsters, you'll want to use your buffs and debuffs to your greatest advantage. There's also people called Kill Stealers, they, as the name implies, steal your kills. They can also be referred to as vultures. They seem to swoop in at the last second and deliver the final blow, stealing your loot and EXP. Others think it's cool to battle it with you, henceforth stealing it. If you keep getting your kills stolen you can try to report them. To do this take a screenshot of the player stealing your kill, and report him to Aeria. A small counter action is simply to note to the stealer that this is your kill, simply saying "This is my kill buddy" has saved my from a stolen kill.

Colors and Code
Colors of text mean a lot in Shaiya, as do colors of monsters and players name. The colors of text don't change much, but here are what the few colors mean:
Gray - Simple chat that show to everyone in your vicinity
Brown - Trade chat, often used as a simple global chat, not just for trade
Green - Various system messages (correct me if this is not green)
Light Green - Party chat, only members of your current party/team can see this.
Pale Red - Whisper or private messege, only the sender and receiver can see it.
Red - Yelling, only the people on the same can see this chat. (correction may be needed)
Pale Purple - Guild Chat, only your current guild (not party) can see this.
The colors of the name of monsters mean even more than chat colors. Each color shows how much stronger the monster is than you, they are as follows:
White - Way too easy, I mean, it's like paper against a rifle. No EXP given
Light Blue - Way too easy, not as bad as white though
Dark Blue - Easier than most
Green - Somewhat average
Yellow - Medium strength, they're the best to train on
Orange - Harder, they seem to be much harder to fight, you'll nearly never win
Red - These can be beat if you try hard enough, and they don't one hit you, although it is better to just run on past them.
Purple - These things will kill in one hit. They are much stronger than you.
Grey - You like life? Don't even look at one of these, they'll kill you tenfold in one stare. No EXP is given for killing one.
Please correct me if I missed any or got any wrong.

Slang
Slang plays a big part in all online games, as in Shaiya most of the abbreviations are the same. Here's a simple list of most slang
WTB - Want to buy
WTS - Want to sell
WTT - Want to trade
brb - be right back
KS - kill steal/kill stealer
PK - player kill/player killer
PvP - player vs. player
PVE - player vs. enviorment/player vs. monster
lol, lmfao, lmao, lolz, lolololololol - various forms that means the character is laughing, the last two forms I would highly discourage.
LFP - Looking for Party
ATM - At The Moment
afk - Away From Keyboard
Tank/Meatshield - Defender
AoE - Area of Effect (regarding the area a certain spell will effect)
LFG - looking for group
LFM - looking for more, people who have a group but want more people in it
WTB - want to buy
PC - player character
NPC - non player character
Mob - a group of enemies
Those are only a few of the slang words used in Shaiya, the most popular I have seen. If any need to be added tell me please.

Adventure, Maps, and Exploration (Also covering the use of water)

Adventure, or mighty adventure. It's what everyone wants, it's what they get. There are many maps, you can traverse to the different maps by use of portals and gate keepers. Most map changing portals are kept by oceans, on docks. There's three PvE only maps and also three PvP only maps. There may be more maps I have not yet been to. They are huge maps too, and there quite a number of dungeons and Pandorashys, correct me if I am wrong. Then there's water, tons of it. It you swim in the ocean as far out as you can, you won't get anywhere. But you can swim along coastlines to get to different parts of the map and across lakes and rivers to get to different areas. Sadly though you cannot swim to different continents. When exploring be careful of monsters, some are hostile while others are not. Keep your eye out for greys and reds.

Parties and Party Member Roles
Parties are groups of people that go around the world of Shaiya helping each other. A party lasts until you log out or exit the party. The party itself is nothing binding, I believe part of the gold collected and EXP splits up between members. Being invited to a party means that the particular party wants you to be a party member. Being somewhat of a newbie myself I do not know how to invite folks to my party, though to accept there should be a button. Then once in a party comes the issue of your role within it. For a Defender you would be the 'tank' or 'meatshield'. Which means you run into the monster(s) and start unleashing whatever you can upon them as well as soaking up all the damage. Basically you hold them away from the archers and mages who stand back and damage them from afar. Healers stand more off to the said, of course healing those wounded in battle, mostly the tanks. If I were a party leader I would keep another Defender or two by the healer and long range hitters in case a monster wanted to mess with them. Assassin's or the closer range Rangers, strike to the back of the monster quickly, pulling back. As the tanks stand there and hold the monsters, then the Assassin comes in and deals high damage into the back, at the same time trying not to get hit.

Chatting
When you chat or type something in the chat box it will pop up above your characters head. To enter something in chat, click the chat entry field, which is a small box below where all the words and coming up, or pressing Enter or Return (the same button, it's the one with the arrow that looks like an L but rotated) should do the trick. Once you see the little | cursor type what you wish. Pressing Enter will send the message through, making it appear above your head.

Last Tips
Here a few tips are you finish up this article, I've put them in a Q&A format.

Q: Okay, this is really getting dull, will this game ever pick up and get better?
A: Hang in there, at level 10 the game changes a lot, you finally get to get some new stuff and start the PvP aspect.

Q: How do I make money?
A: Tons of ways, the easiest is to kill monsters and take their gold and loot, selling the loot.

Q: I'm SO tired of grinding!
A: So stop, take a break. Sell some loot, do a quest where you don't have to kill anything. Just jump around and look at the scenery.

Q: Okay, so you see, I'm stuck in the middle of NOWHERE and want to get to civilization, how do I do that?
A: Open your chat box and in the normal channel type /town

Q: What's the matter, I can't type in Trade chat?
A: You cannot type in trade chat until you reach level 10.

Q: Does typing in Trade chat cost any money?
A: Nope, totally free.

Q: When do I get my mount?
A: At level 40 you can buy a mount for 11 million gold (yeah, it's a lot but you don't waste your gold on useless stuff you'll have enough) in Apulune/Iris from the Mount Seller.

Q: Why does the game say for 18 and up?
A: That would be for some blood and cussing as well as nudity (yes full fledged nudity, I have not seen it on players but I have on monsters, Mercenary Arachnids to be more specific), there are also sexual themes. A note on the nude monsters, what I have seen, it as from the waist up only, I don't know if there is anything down further.
Q: Can I fly or anything like that?
A: Nope, although there are some unique features in Shaiya, mostly that it's a very high quality free game, and it's PvP system which works like a charm.

Q: My computer is lagging horribly, what should I do?
A: Well, you downloaded the game so I would guess your connection is fast enough, so if you go into the options there is a graphics selection, if you go into there and slide the sliders to the left and unselect the water feature it should help a lot. Remember you have to exit the game and reload it (not re download it) for the settings to work.

I hope my guide helped some, any feedback, comments, and other information is encouraged and accepted. As well, if anyone knows where I can get fairly large maps of Shaiya (for the light side, I've never played the Fury) I would like to add good training areas for newbs. A short PS note to GMs or anyone who has the power, it'd be a good idea to add WHY the game is for 18+ as for the children who may need some kind of parent approval. I searched the entire site, some of the forums, and asked some players and found nothing until I made this post and found the arachnids.

Shaiya Game Overview

Shaiya is a Free to play MMORPG Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game created by Sonov Entertainment.
Shaiya Story and Background

In the ancient times, there was the Goddess Etain and the three races she created: the Dragons, the Nordein, and the Dumianas. The Goddess found faults in the Nordien and cast them into the soil. In their arrogance, the Dumianas questioned Etain's power and authority and she was weakened by their disbelief, and the Dumianas killed her. Her soul was torn in two. The death of the Etain left Teos out of balance and unprotected. Other Gods sought to take over Teos and created monsters to invade and destroy it. The Dragons hid themselves from the world. When the dust settled, there were two new Goddesses overseeing Teos. The remaining Dumianas were split into two factions; one for each Goddess.

These two races in Shaiya, the Elves and the Vail, found themselves in constant conflict with each other. Age old tensions fueled their aggression. Soon after, the Humans joined forces with the Elves while the Nordein re-emerged as the Deatheaters and allied with the Vail, creating two factions: The Alliance of Light and the Union of Fury. Not only battling the monsters that still roam the lands, these two sides wage a never ending war over the control of Teos.

Shaiya Character Classes
A players choice of class is restricted by race, and therefore by faction. There are twelve classes, however only six unique styles of play.

  • Defender (Human) / Guardian (Nordein) - These are the only playable tank classes. They are heavily armored with high hit points and have the ability to provoke enemies into attacking them. They may equip a shield and a one-handed weapon. Their primary goal is to keep foes away from other party members.

  • Fighter (Human) / Warrior (Nordein) - The melee specialists and can deal out good amounts of damage. They are able to equip most available weapons and have spells available to them as well.

  • Priest (Human) / Oracle (Vail) - Possess healing and resurrection skills. Their armor is very weak. They can inflict minor damage with spells thus are generally better suited for group play and helping other players.

  • Ranger (Elf) / Assassin (Vail) - Stealth, deception, and evasion are used by this class to inflict high amounts of damage before the enemy has a chance to strike back.

  • Archer (Elf) / Hunter (Nordein) - Uses ranged weapons, such as bows or javelins, to wound and slow enemies from a distance. Their light armor is compensated for by the ability to kite.

  • Mage (Elf) / Pagan (Vail) - A ranged, spell-casting class with very weak armor but has multiple Area of effect and high-damage skills.

Shaiya Player versus Player
Shaiya features several battlefields in which players from opposing factions can engage in a never-ending conflict. There are various PvP maps with progressing level ranges: 1-15, 20-30, 1-60.

Shaiya players may issue a challenge to another player within the same faction who is near him/her. If the challenged player does not respond within 10 seconds, the challenge is automatically rejected.

Defeated players in PVP combat stand a change of losing an un-equipped item from their inventory

Crafting within Shaiya
The only crafting ability is the repairing of a weapon's endurance level. However, it is reported thart a crafting system has already been completed and will soon be introduced to Shaiya.

Shaiya Quests
NPCs in Shaiya provide quests which players may complete for experience and unique items. There were well over 1,000 available quests for players to undetake.
